During your first therapy appointment, it's normal to feel a mix of emotions including anticipation, nervousness, and even a sense of relief. The session will typically begin with acquiring verbal consent for therapy and discussing the limits to confidentiality, as well as other pertinent details outlined in the online intake form. Following this process is the exploration of your presenting concerns and therapeutic goals. Your therapist will create a safe and confidential space for you to share your thoughts and feelings without fear of judgment. They will listen attentively, seeking to understand your unique experiences and provide guidance and support. The initial session is often focused on building rapport between you and your therapist, establishing trust, and gaining an understanding of your current struggles and needs. It's important to remember that therapy is a collaborative process, and you will work together with your therapist to develop a treatment plan that suits you best.
